Ila Dress from Coffee and Thread

It's not often that I pull out my precious nani IRO during a pattern test, but somehow when it's a Coffee + Thread pattern, I feel pretty safe doing so. I've done it before (strangely I have never blogged my nani IRO Eleena Dress, but I posted a different one here) and as you can see with this Ila Dress, I've turned to nani IRO again.

Nah-Connection Shop Opening

To celebrate the opening of the new English Näh-Connection Shop, the very wonderful and very talented Annika and her ambassadors are showcasing many of the German patterns that have been translated into English. I'm sure by now you have heard of Annika. Her blog is filled with beautiful and colorful photos of the lovely things she sews for herself and her children. I'm so excited to be part of this tour!

Tulip Dress

I have loved the Tulip Dress ever since I first laid eyes on it, and was thrilled when Eva and Katrien asked me if I would be interested in looking over the English translation of the pattern and participating in their tour. Would I!!!

Pattern Testing: Ruffle Dress by Lolah

As soon as I saw the very sweet Ruffle Dress from Lolah Patterns, I couldn't help myself. I knew I had to make one for my daughter because, well, look at that flounce! There are two options, the small and the big. And, being American (as my husband would joke), of course I had to "go big." Hahaha.

Tea House Top and Dress Tour

When I first started learning how to sew, never in my wildest dreams did I think I would actually make things for myself. At least, not things that I would be able to wear out in public. And by that, I mean that I never thought I would get to the point where I could make myself a real button-down shirt or jeans or even a dress! Though I have a long, long way to go still, I can't believe sometimes that I am sewing for myself.

Pandalicious Blog Tour

Art Gallery Fabrics is one company that always makes me swoon over their designs and quality. As soon as I caught a glimpse of the Pandalicious line by Katarina Roccella, I immediately wanted everything. No exaggeration. Everything.

Moiano Coat Tour: Straight Grain Patterns

If you were to look through my girls' closet, one thing would be immediately obvious. Okay, two things. The first: they have SO. MANY. DRESSES. The second: I love Straight Grain patterns. Like bought-them-all, real, true, deep, abiding love. The kind where your face gets all dreamy and you have hearts for eyes. Like that.

Havanna Blouse & Shorts - Cali Faye Collection

I have been a longtime fan of Cali Faye Collection's aesthetic. It is classic and chic, and that goes for both the women's and girls patterns. I also like how the patterns are great for everyday styling as well as dressing up a bit, which is the look I sort of went for with the Havanna Blouse and Shorts.

Top Knot Tour

Wow, I guess it's been a while! I meant to post a couple of weeks ago when I realized that it was the "anniversary" of my first post on this blog, but well...life happens. Anyway, I'm back today to celebrate with a pattern that I absolutely love -- and more importantly, that both my daughters love!

Floral Eleena Dress from Coffee and Thread

During the testing of the Eleena Dress from Coffee and Thread, I made several versions, and though they are all much loved by my girls, I think this one is my particular favorite. I don't know why it took me so long to blog about it, though. Um...laziness?

Top Knot Romper/Dress by Chalk and Notch

When Gabriela of Chalk and Notch announced that she was working on another pattern, it was with great anticipation and excitement that I stalked kept checking her blog and IG posts for updates. Now, there is no way that I need another pattern, but judging from her first pattern, I knew that this next one would be something special. I was not disappointed.

From My Mother To Me

I am so happy to be a part of Victoria's "From My Mother To Me" series this year. It's such a special series, and I have enjoyed reading everyone's stories. I have always been very close to my mother. In fact, you could say that I've always been a bit of a "mama's girl", ever since I was very young.

It's no secret how much I love Puperita patterns. Or, if it is, it shouldn't be! I mean, I REALLY love them!!

What I Learned From Mie: My Favorite Things

I have met some really amazingly talented people in the sewing community, and there is one woman who constantly blows me away with her knowledge, her talent, her creativity, and her generosity. I think of her as rather like Dante's Beatrice (a source of wisdom and guidance). Who is she?

Pattern Testing: Miss Polly by Sewpony Vintage

I don't know about you, but I've been meaning to start taking things a bit slower these days - at least on the sewing front. The list of things that I want to sew just keeps growing, and I find myself getting sidetracked by so many things that on most days it feels as though I am running around getting nothing done. And then I get overwhelmed by my list, so I have to tell myself to take a deep breath and do one thing at a time.

One of the things on my to-sew list is a pretty dress for my younger daughter. Big sister always seems to get all the new lovelies, and it just doesn't seem fair. So when I saw the Miss Polly dress, I knew it would be the perfect thing for her.

The Eleena Dress by Coffee and Thread

With all the beautiful Eleenas on parade this past week, I was intimidated to talk about mine -- on the last day, no less! But my girls and I really love this dress (I made a few during testing which I hope to post at a later date), so here I am with two takes on the same dress.

I have renamed the latest incarnation of this dress "The Heleena of Troy" dress for the little "war" it has caused between my girls. Why? Read on...

World Book Day Blog Tour

Although World Book Day was officially yesterday, March 3, I am posting today as part of the World Book Day Blog Tour hosted by Becki of Dobbins Bobbins. When she contacted me to participate in the tour, I was so happy! Reading and sewing? YES!

Pattern Testing: Elegance & Elephants Mori Dress

From the moment I saw Heidi Kettner's latest pattern for Elegance & Elephants, I was in love. You know, that fluttery, dancing through the meadow to the sound of birds chirping type of love.

Today is the last day of the Succulence Collection blog hop, hosted by the very lovely Bonnie Christine of Going Home to Roost. Have you seen all the lovelies on the tour thus far? Amazing. I am so honored to be on this tour alongside a lot of talented people! And Art Gallery fabrics are so special. Once you work with it, you will immediately feel the difference.

Pattern Testing: The Trinity Tee by Rock the Stitch

You probably have heard me mention many times that my pattern testing adventures began with the women's Aberdeen Jacket from Rock the Stitch. It was thanks to Rebecca taking a chance on me that I entered the testing world (as a total beginner, no less!). So you can imagine I was very excited when I heard she was working on her next pattern, this time for kids! The Trinity Tee.

Pattern Testing: The Mackinaw Coat by Designs by Call Ajaire

How has your 2016 been so far? Many of my blogging plans have fallen to the wayside, but at least I've been sewing a lot! I'm here with a fabulous coat pattern that is launching today. It's the Mackinaw Coat by Call Ajaire. Comfy-cozy and really cool.

Project Sew It - January 2016

So let's be honest. Until now, most of my sewing has been selfish sewing. And I don't mean "selfish sewing" in the sense that I have been sewing for myself (anyway, I think of that as "self-care sewing"). I mean "selfish" in the way that I make almost all of the sewing decisions regarding the clothing that I make for my children. It's a pleasure that is truly a selfish one. I get to decide on the fabric, I get to choose the pattern, and I select the notions. Of course it is not entirely a dictatorship; I do ask them for their opinions sometimes, ha ha.

Lining Your Flutter Sleeves: The Eleena Dress by Coffee and Thread

Hello fellow flutter sleeve fans!! I never thought I'd be doing a tutorial for anything on the blog (at least, not so early on in my "sewing career" -- ha ha that sounds so funny to me), but here I am showing you how I like to do lined sleeves. It's quite easy, and for many people I'm sure this tutorial won't be exciting news, but just in case anyone wants to see it in action, I thought I'd put a little something together just for you.
